19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of that year.

The win also means he has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
